Mathematical Sciences is a broadly based course
- Mathematical Sciences is a broadly based course with a component from
outside mathematics (currently offering options in Financial Mathematics,
Actuarial Science, Astronomy, Computer Science, Philosophy, Mathematics
Education); the MMath is aimed, though not exclusively so, at aspiring
professional mathematicians (meaning those who will directly use their
mathematical skills in their careers).
- Across the University, about 2/3 of mathematicians take Mathematical
Sciences and 1/3 the MMath. Three- and four-year mathematics undergraduates
follow a common first-year course, and the choice between these courses at
admission is only provisional.
